Self care is essential for our overall well being. Our health impacts how we feel and how we connect with others, as well as the world around us.
This makes it super important to dedicate that time to giving your physical, psychological, and emotional health some TLC and to break away from the draining stress of everyday life.
Stress, over time can lead to some major health problems if you don’t properly deal with it. Trust me, I’ve been there, but I’ll save that for another post.
In today’s post, I want to highlight 4 essential self care tips that can hopefully help you find peace, treat yourself right, end negativity, and live with gratitude each day.
Set Clear Boundaries
It can be difficult to say no to people. Especially if it is the people you love and care about.
But if you’re constantly doing things for others, this can leave you feeling depleted and resentful.
If you start to set boundaries, this can strengthen relationships because it allows you the time that you need in order to make sure your needs are met before you try to serve other people.
As selfish as it sounds, it is actually super beneficial in the long term.
You can’t help others unless you’re in the position mentally, physically and emotionally. Whatever you do in terms of self care, make sure to commit to it 100%. Don’t half step this.
If you plan on making time for yourself, REALLY make time for yourself.
We live in a world where we are not really in the moment, but rather distracted by other things and thoughts. So really commit to your time.
Turn off your phones and all other technology and just BE.
Redirect your mind when it wanders off and let go of any thoughts you may be having about what you ‘should’ be doing instead of taking care of yourself.
Tapping Into Your Intuition
A major part of self care is gaining the strength and knowledge to believe in yourself and abilities to make choices that are right for your body and mind, instead of depending on others to make these decisions for you.
Nowadays, when we’re faced with the inability to make a decision, we often turn to things like social media to see what everyone else says or thinks. What gets the most votes, likes or shares.
On a physiological level, being super connected to digital media dumbs down our power to make our own decisions.
It short circuits our intuition to move conclusively to a decision, which means relying on others. This not only zaps your confidence, but it leads to making weak life choices.
You have way more power to change your life than you think. Take some time alone and reflect on your own strengths.

Learn how to harness the power of your intuition. It can be challenging, of course. But with some practice, you will come to a point to where you’re fully aligned with your intuitive self.
Start Your Self Care Plan
This doesn’t take a complete overhaul of your life just to improve your well being. If you just add a few of these practices into your self care plan, this can make a world of difference.
- Avoid Negative People
You ever heard the phrase: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with?”
If you are trying to keep a positive attitude and outlook on life, you need to avoid the people who thrive on negativity.
Negative people can bring you down regardless of your situation.
Seek out and surround yourself with positive, influential people. Just as negative attitudes can spread, so can positive ones.
- Realize Failures are Inevitable
We all make mistakes and experience failure. It’s a part of growth.
This is an essential necessary as it helps us learn valuable lessons and most of all builds resilience.
Never be afraid to take risks and try new things. It can either be a great life lesson or a great succession .
We don’t know what we don’t know, so therefore we must at least try.
- Never compare yourself to others
We are all on our own journey, so trying to compare yours to someone else’s is the #1 setup for defeat and disappointment.
Instead, focus on your own strengths and successes, like that amazing meal you made the other day, or job interview you crushed or the fact that you ran 2 miles without stopping.
Always remember that everyone face some sort of challenges.
So whatever obstacles or challenges you may be facing, once you can get over the hump, you will come out so much stronger and better than ever before, no matter how painful it may be right now.
- Spend more time doing and less time procrastinating
The more you do, the more you’ll be able to do. Go start that blog you’ve always wanted to start.

Or sign up for that coding program you’ve been wanting to learn. Call that friend you’ve been wanting to talk to for awhile.
When you spend more time on the sidelines than playing in the game of life, it gets insanely harder to do the things you care about the most.
So do more, worry less.
- Journal or Meditate
An essential step to taking proper care of yourself is to find some healthy outlets for your anxiety and tension.
Some examples of dealing with stress in a good way include meditating, journaling or some sort of mindfulness activities like yoga, hiking or just spending time with family and friends.
Overall, having an outlet for negative feelings can help you see things more clear and allow you to gain a positive perspective on things.
The last tip on self care for today is….
To Live With Gratitude
It might sound a bit cliche or a tad too simple. But deciding to count your blessings just might be the most important choice you can ever make.
Experts who study gratitude loosely define it as a sense of appreciation and thankfulness for the good things in life, both big and small.
It also may just be the fastest route to enduring happiness. Many people assume that happy people are simply more grateful, but it’s actually the other way around.
Once a week, sit down and write out five things you recently experienced for which you were grateful for.
Did you have a nice evening out with a friend? Get a promotion at work or just found your favorite dessert spot in town.
No matter how big or small, it doesn’t matter. Just write them down.
If people were to make gratitude a daily practice, fear and hatred might finally be overcome by love and compassion. But even if we can’t change the world, we can always change ourselves.
When you practice gratitude, you naturally search for kindness, love and goodness throughout the day, so you’ll have something new in mind to be grateful for.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these few tips on self care. These are all critical components of a happy, healthy life. So start to adapt some of these today!
